Y’all, today is an auspicious day. It’s auspicious because one of the orchids sitting in my office window decided to bloom!
If you’ve ever had orchids, you know what I mean when I say that orchids are a lot like that person you’re dating who you’re not sure likes you. They don’t say much to you about how they’re feeling, and when you ask they just look at you.
You THINK they like you and that they’re reasonably happy, but you can’t really tell. Would you like more water? Less water? Fertilizer? Do you like where you are in the office? Would you like me to change something? Are you happy? Why aren’t you talking to me?
But since they’re not dying you just have to kind of sit with it and figure they’re probably OK since they’re not dying. And then, just when you’re about to give up on the whole thing because you can’t tell if they’re happy or not, boom! You walk in one day and there’s a whole-ass perfect flower right there looking at you. And it isn’t the color you thought it would be, either.
Yeah. That’s orchids for you. If you can’t tolerate this kind of process I advise cultivating something that gives you lots of leaves and love, like Asian greens. And maybe not dating people who are avoidantly attached. Spoken as an apex, and I do mean apex, level Avoidant myself. (yes, I’ve been working on it for years, and it’s exhausting!).
I’m just saying.
